Which author inspires you the most?

I was wondering which author inspires you to read and/or write?
What do you like most about their writing?

I hope to one day to write like Dean Koontz but for now am using the inspiration I get from Mem Fox to work on a couple of children's books.

Whether it's a children's book or thriller novel, I think a great story takes you away from your real life, an escape into a world you've never explored. A good writer keeps me there and I feel disappointment when the story finishes knowing I have to leave the characters behind.

And how hard is it to find a suitable book to follow one of your better reads??

How does my inspiration come ?

Hello !
(First of all, I'm sorry for the mistakes I'll write : I'm french and my english isn't perfect...)

Personnaly, my inspiration comes from a lot of different things (not only some authors ! ) : it comes from music, advertising, movies, ... And it is very important to developp general culture. But the most important to have inspiration is to read a lot, and to read very different authors : classic litterature and popular litterature, of different centuries...
The authors who wrote adventures books are really very efficient to inspire writers (Stevenson, Defoe, Dumas, Kipling, Melville,...) even if they want to write something totally different. We shall inspire us from great narrators like Dickens, Kundera, Maupassant, Simenon, ... too.
Personnaly my inspiration come first from teenagers litterature. I don't know why ; but I think that it's because there is more fantasy in them and so they help me to dream...

(For people who read french : go in http://notrecoeurnestpasanous.over-blog.com/article-20077489.html You would be able to read a story which is successful in the french web)

Inspiring Authors

I realize this thread is old, but teste provoked a thought: I agree it is hard to "let go" once you find yourself at the end of a good book/story. I guess that is why, when I find a good book, I try to read all the books that author has written. I have found dozens of "favorite" authors, very good writers who consistently people their stories w/the kind of characters you can immerse yourself in, stories that are rich in plot, scenery, information and relationships, as well as drama and humor. Because I search out more than one book by an author that I like, I have discovered I am never "left wanting" at the end of a good book; I know I can go to the online library catalog, and order MORE of the same! And having so many "favorite" authors is fabulous, because I know who to look for when I am in the mood for a certain kind of story or character relationships!

I have to say that Nickolas Sparks and Nora Roberts are the authors who have inspired me the most.

Nickolas Sparks writes wonderful relationship stories; they don't always have a "happy ending", but I come away from each of his books with more faith, and hope in the human race, and a heart that has expanded with all the range of feelings his stories inspire in me!

Nora Roberts just creates characters that I would LOVE to know in my own life, full of vitality, courage, great intelligence, and humor. Every time I read one of her stories, I am reminded again of what a treasure good friends are, and how important it is to be faithful, supportive and loving as I interact with others in my life.

I wish more people would share their comments in response to yours, teste. This is a great post! Dessa M
