This is an amazing story of a family in Australia that had an Autistic child and managed to raise him fairly normally. As a parent the book makes me cringe at the thought of autistic behavior and what they went though. I've heard the ending is happy and that they all lead normal lives after compensating for the condition. What is especially interesting is that the son can now explain his bizarre behavior expressed as a child.

On a side note, the author Nicholas Sparks has an autistic child. Well he used to be until he overcame it. Nicholas talks about it in his book, Three Weeks with My Brother.

I saw an interview with Jenny McCarthy (Jim Carey's partner) on Oprah about her book "Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism." Her story sounded so interesting, and though I haven't read the book, I am sure it would be very well written as Jenny was so enthusiastic and articulate when she spoke.

I don't know how interested you are in reading about autism, but I thought you might want to know my aunt, Janet Leszl Lord, wrote a novel, A Pebble to Polish about a mother discovering her son has autism and how she learns to parent him. She, herself, has a son with autism, and while the novel is not autobiographical, it does share some of the strategies she learned to help her son adapt better.

Thanks for the referral text. Autisim is a bit of an enigma. I'm finding it an interesting topic to explore.
