Mass operations

Hi,

I like booktagger. However, it would be more sueful to me if it were possible to select (checkbox?) a number of books and move them all in one go rather than dragging a dozen books and then waiting for the browser to refresh.

Or if the page loaded two graphics, say one for each bookcover and one dummy cover labeled "moved" could you then replace the cover rather than refreshing the view?

I'm thinking speed of use. When I'm presented with a dozen books by one author to move to "I own," the task of doing so gets old fast when it's a one-at-a-time operation.

Large collections

For serious use by people who would like to manage large collections of books, there really needs to be a way to synchronise between an offline list and the online bookshelves. Exporting (e.g. to CSV format), and displaying lists without the cover images (so you can fit a larger number of titles per page, and easily see the title names for those with no cover image) would be a good first step, but eventually the ability to upload lists will be needed. I'd love to keep my collection in a shared online system, but it's just not practical to search for and drag thousands of titles.

Since you are essentially dealing with book catalogs, there is a lot of existing software (including open source) that can help. Ultimately, you might want to look at Z39.50 interfaces.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your comments. We've just commenced testing a csv upload facility for administrators and are planning for a release to the general public. An import/export facility is important to us and it will be happening. A Z39.50 interface is on our radar.

I'll add additional image display options to the list of things to do.

Cheers,

Jeremy

I agree with this. This site and its refreshing takes a long time relative to other sites. I also would like an easier way to see what others are reading. I can't figure out how to look at one person's whole bookshelf, but then again I haven't looked for directions how to do this. I am simply clicking on book covers and weaving that way.

Above each shelf there is a "view all" link. This will let you view more books at a time. We're working on improving site performance. Thank you for your ideas.

What I understand is that we need to find an easier way to add books quickly. I'll start the planning stages and see what functionality we can come up with.

Cheers,

Jeremy
