Hi,
My name is Helen S
Reading "Mean Streets" Author: Sue Williams
The Father Chris Riley Story.
Have just finished "Life of Pi" Author: Yann Martel
Winner of the Man Booker Prize.
I am enjoying this site. It is easy to forget many of the books that I read and this is a great way of recording them and referring to others.
Must spend more time here and fill up my 'shelves'

Helen,
I read Life of Pi last year and found it a bit troubling. The beginning of the book fascinated me - especially when the religious men argued over aspects of God and Pi's candid response to their pointed questions quieted them. I also enjoyed the last couple of chapters where Pi's truth differed from what the interviewers wanted. The middle seemed rather static to me.
I know that it is asking much of a person to be introspective when survival is an hour-by-hour war, but I felt disconnected from his spiritual search when he was adrift. (Maybe that WAS the point?)
What do you think?
