Bram Stoker's Dracula - Why Lucy??

Posted by Jane Eyre on 3 July, 2008 - 08:09

Hi all

I'm rereading Dracula, I just love the story, but I'm still at a loss re Lucy. Although this is the second time around I still can't work out what Dracula's motive was in attacking Lucy Westenra? Was there meant to be a motive or was she just the first random fair young maiden he ran into when he travelled to London?

Help!

Not one up with Draculian practices I'd vote for that she was the first young fair maiden.

haha. .

yeah I'm tending to agree. I'm just questioning the relevance of the character. I mean Mina, Jonathan Harker, Van Helsing they're obvious but Lucy just doesn't seem to serve any purpose to the plot per say. She's just Mina's best frience who Dracula attacks. Quincy Morris and Arthur I guess are in the same vein (ha vein!).

Nevermind, I was just curious what others might have thought!
