It is the end of the nineteenth century, and one of the most powerful storms in history is born when a hurricane named Mahina moves across the Coral Sea.
To a remote part of the Queensland coast come the hundreds of sails of the northern pearling fleets and a native policeman trying to solve a murder. Nearly two thousand men, women and children are gathering around Cape Melville, right in the path of the storm that is about to cause Australia’s deadliest natural disaster.
Based on real events, this is the story of an unstoppable force of nature and the birth and death of an Australian dream.

Well, I only just got the book yesterday but given the intriguing characters seen in the first chapter of The Devil's Eye, I am certain that this period piece will be worth doing a podcast review about when I have finished reading it. I especially like the aging judge Douglas, who begins the tale in the middle of a family crisis. I will post an abridged review when I have finished, but it could take a while given that I also have another book to review.
